Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth
The origin of the Vidyapeeth dates back to pre-independence period – 1921 when immediately after the demise of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, his follower Mahatma Gandhi mooted the idea of establishing a university in his memory.
With regard to the UGC policy related to access, equity, quality, research and so on, the Vidyapeeth has always done its best to reach the unreached. Vidyapeeth has State-of-the-Art infrastructure facilities, requisite qualified and dedicated faculties and administrative staff along with allied facilities to foster a positive learning environment. Several eminent personalities such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Zakir Husain, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Shri. Sharad Pawar, Shri. Pranab Mukherji and others during their visit to the Vidyapeeth campus have appreciated its uniqueness, amicable culture and rigorous research activities.
The Vidyapeeth was awarded the status of ‘Deemed to be University’ by Govt. of India in 1987 in recognition of its contribution in the field of education, which accorded the Vidyapeeth recognition at the national level. During the last 32 years, the Vidyapeeth has developed significantly. Today, The Vidyapeeth offers various courses through 12 Boards of Studies. At the time of award of status of “Deemed to be University” the Vidyapeeth had only three faculties, namely those of Ayurveda, Sanskrit, and Social Science. Subsequently, new faculties were formed in the fields of Modern Sciences, Management, Health Science and Law. This addition of courses in new disciplines has been possible under the able guidance of Dr. Deepak Tilak, the Vice – Chancellor of the Vidyapeeth. His leadership has resulted in the Vidyapeeth transforming itself to face the challenges in today’s globalized world. The Vidyapeeth at present offers post-graduate education through M. Sc (CA), MBA, MSW, LLB., MJ, B.Lib.I.Sc, M.Lib.I.Sc, MA (Social Sciences), MA (Marathi, Hindi, English, Japanese, Sanskrit, Indology), Ayurved and M.Com along with undergraduate education through BCA, BBA, Journalism, BHMCT (Hotel Management), BPT, B.Sc.-Nursing, B.Com and B.A.
